Last year, Korea was hit with the worst oil spill to this date. In December, a super tanker leaked 78,920 barrels of oil into South Korea’s western water after being hit by a wayward barge, jeopardizing the ecosystem and the livelihood of an area that includes popular beaches and fishing grounds.
The government promised to provide residents with financial aid, but disbursements have been bogged down in bureaucratic delays. An association of residents in the area has called for legislation to ensure the swift provision of aid.
This travesty has left coastal residents like fisherman, and restaurant owners without a source of income that may take years to build back up. Luckily, many Korean celebrities stepped up to the plate to help their fellow Koreans during this time of need.

Some stars even came without word posing as regular citizens volunteering side by side with other volunteers, coast guards, soldiers, and local residents to help clean away debris and left over oil clinging to rocks and land.

Not only did some stars volunteer, but they also donate money for the local residents and businesses that was hit by the huge oil spill.
It’s good to see celebrities to go out and give a helping hand to those in need because many often at times, stars can come off as spoiled, winny little babies that deserve no praise what so ever. But I think they are learning that it’s better to give than to take. Let’s hope they keep up with these charitable acts.
